Florida Housing and Insurance Emergency Relief Act

Florida families are being priced out of their homes. Rising rent, skyrocketing insurance premiums, and a lack of affordable housing are putting pressure on working people, seniors, and families across our state.

The Florida Housing and Insurance Emergency Relief Act is my plan to deliver immediate relief while addressing the root causes of rising housing and insurance costs.

What This Plan Does

Provides Immediate Relief

  • Freezes rent temporarily to stop sudden increases

  • Protects tenants from unfair barriers when challenging rent

Holds Insurance Companies Accountable

  • Launches an independent investigation into rate increases

  • Requires full transparency in company practices

  • Forces refunds and rate reductions if overcharges are found

Cracks Down on Housing Speculation

  • Targets large-scale, out-of-state and foreign investors who are driving up costs and pricing local families out of their communities

  • Discourages vacant properties that reduce housing availability

  • Protects access to housing for Florida residents

Expands Affordable Housing

  • Speeds up approval for workforce and affordable housing

  • Reduces unnecessary delays and excessive fees

  • Supports development that serves local communities

Supports Florida Families

  • Prioritizes seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, and working families

  • Expands access for middle-income households being priced out

Why It Matters

People should not be forced out of their homes because they can’t afford to stay.

This plan is about lowering costs, increasing fairness, and making sure Florida works for the people who live here—not just corporations, speculators, and investors.
